Recency, Heisman Trophy lead voting

In a close race between recency and the Heisman Trophy, Justin Fields was picked by Dispatch.com users as the best Ohio State quarterbac­k of all time.

Fields, who played for the Buckeyes the past two seasons and is now with the Chicago Bears, received 23.49% of the vote.

Troy Smith, the 2006 Heisman Trophy winner, was second with 19.99%.

Fields began his college career at Georgia but transferre­d after his freshman season. At Ohio State, he led the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoff semifinal in his first season and to the championsh­ip game last year. He finished third in the Heisman voting in 2019.

Earlier this year, he was selected by the Bears in the first round of the NFL draft.

Smith started for the Buckeyes from 2004-06. In winning the Heisman Trophy, he received 91.6% of the firstplace votes, a record that stood for 13 years. He played in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers from 2007-10.
