- Lori Schmidt

Two athletes from Columbus are bringing home medals from the Paralympics in Tokyo.

Blake Haxton earned a silver in sprint canoe, finishing two seconds behind gold medalist Rufino de Paulo Fernando of Brazil. Haxton was the only United States athlete competing in multiple sports and also placed 10th in single sculls rowing.

Mindy Cook was a member of the silver medal-winning women's goalball team. Cook made the crucial last block in extra throws against Brazil that sent the Americans to the finals. In that championship bout, the U.S. fell to Turkey 9-2.

The closing ceremonies for the Paralympics were Sunday.
