Supplier of overdose drugs gets prison
A Delaware man was sentenced to nearly 11 years in federal prison Friday after being found guilty of providing heroin and cocaine laced with fentanyl that resulted in at least three fatal overdoses.
Darnell Reeves, 34, received a 130month prison sentence in U.S. District Court in Columbus.
According to court records, Delaware County law enforcement officials had responded to a fatal overdose on Feb. 28, 2018 in the Ostrander area, where the victim was found with a used syringe. Investigators said they traced the heroin, crack cocaine and fentanyl used by the victim back to Reeves, who also goes by "Bookie."
A continuing investigation led to Reeves being tied to two other fatal overdoses, one on Jan. 22, 2018 and one on March 22, 2018, as well as a non-fatal overdose on Feb. 12, 2018.
Reeves was arrested in June 2018 on the federal charges and has been in custody since that time.
"Reeves' actions have contributed to loss of life and the near death of several others," Delaware County Sheriff Russell Martin said in a prepared release.
"This is once again an example of the Delaware County Drug Task Force working in collaboration with our federal, state and local partners to remove a dangerous person from our community, as well as hold him responsible for the devastating results of his drug trafficking," Martin said.
