Ohiohealth hospital to add 500 jobs
Pickerington campus to be finished in late 2023
Ohiohealth will begin building its newest hospital this fall on 30 undeveloped acres at its Pickerington outpatient campus, representing a $140 million investment.
Once construction of the 220,000square-foot facility is complete, Ohiohealth
Pickerington Methodist Hospital will support more than 500 jobs, the health system said Monday in a release. It is expected to open in late 2023.
What is now a freestanding emergency room will become the hospital’s emergency room, a spokeswoman said. The new six-story hospital will connect to the existing buildings at the campus and include 60 beds and six operating rooms. Services offered will include level III trauma, acute stroke and heart programs including catheterization, cancer
infusion, women’s health, general surgery and imaging, lab and pharmacy.
“Ohiohealth is committed to expanding our already robust services in the Pickerington community,” said Kevin Lutz, the Ohiohealth executive overseeing the project. “Since we opened the Ohiohealth Pickerington Medical Campus in 2015, we have continued to learn about the healthcare needs of those who live and work in and around Pickerington. We are excited to add more life-saving capabilities to our campus to better serve the community.”
The Pickerington hospital will be the 13th for Ohiohealth, which operates five hospitals in Columbus and its suburbs — Grant Medical Center, Riverside Methodist Hospital, Doctors Hospital, Dublin Methodist Hospital and Grove City Methodist Hospital — and seven hospitals in surrounding counties.
Ohiohealth Pickerington, designed by Cannon Design with Messer Construction as the builder, will be the fourth-largest of the system’s Columbus hospitals after Riverside, Grant and Dublin, which is 357,000 square feet. Grove City Methodist Hospital, which opened in 2018, has three floors and 79,850 square feet.
Services at the existing Pickerington campus will continue uninterrupted during construction.
The health system has 35,000 associates and $4.3 billion in revenue in its most recent fiscal year. ksmith@dispatch.com @katywatersmith
