How high does US News rank Ohio State, other area colleges?

Ohio State University landed a spot this year in the top 50 best national universities, according to the latest college rankings by U.S. News and World Report.

In its 37th annual list released this week, U.S. News and World Report assessed more than 1,400 bachelor’s degree-granting colleges and universities across the country for its best college rankings for 2022.

A number of schools in Greater Columbus and statewide found a spot on one of their lists, including best national universities, best national liberal arts colleges and best regional universities in the Midwest. The study also includes rankings for specific programs and measures like best first-year student experience.

The rankings are based on several academic measures including graduation and retention rates, social mobility, graduation rate performance, undergraduate academic reputation, faculty resources, expert opinion, financial resources, student selectivity and alumni giving.

Ohio State moved up the list of best national universities to the 49th spot in this year’s rankings from 53rd last year. It also rated highest among Ohio universities in that ranking.

Ohio State tied for the 49th slot with five other universities: Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, Northeastern University in Massachusetts, Pepperdine University in California, Purdue University in Indiana and Villanova University in Pennsylvania.
