- Monroe Trombly

Sean Rowe, the Army veteran who was killed by a local SWAT team last month, was shot at least six times, an autopsy found.

One of the bullets entered Rowe’s chest, struck his aorta and traveled through his right lung. Another bullet entered his abdomen, though no internal organs were injured from that round.

The other four bullets entered Rowe’s right arm, left forearm and the front and back of his right thigh.

Lee D. Lehman, chief deputy coroner of Montgomery County, conducted the autopsy. He said in a report that Rowe died of multiple gunshot wounds and has ruled his death a homicide.

Rowe’s body also showed signs of blunt force trauma. Two contusions, in addition to multiple minor superficial abrasions and contusions, were found; one on his right thigh, the other on the left side of his chest.

Rowe was shot and killed at his Mifflin Township home on Aug. 4 by the Allied Special Operations Response Team (ASORT) after a three-hour standoff. The local SWAT team is made up of members of Richland County’s law enforcement agencies.

Rowe filmed portions of the standoff, uploading videos to Youtube before the SWAT team entered 3340 Peterson Road. In some of the Youtube videos, Rowe can be seen consuming what appears to be alcohol and talks about drinking tequila.

A toxicology report shows Rowe had a blood alcohol content of 0.254%, more than three times Ohio’s legal driving limit of 0.08. Marijuana was also found in his system.

After being shot, Rowe was taken by ambulance to Ohiohealth Mansfield Hospital, about eight miles away from his home. He died of his injuries in the hospital’s emergency room.
