Columbus man facing federal charges following bomb threat to health facility
A Columbus man already in a Franklin County jail on counts related to other crimes has been charged in federal court with making threats to a North Side reproductive health services facility.
Carlos Manuel Rodriguez Brime, 25, who is from the Eastland area on the Southeast Side, is facing three counts under an indictment released Friday morning.
According to court documents, Brime called and threatened Your Choice Healthcare on Karl Road in April. The business “helps individuals access safe abortions, providing oral medication to induce an abortion up until nine weeks and six days of a pregnancy term.”
In one call, Brime told an on-call staff member that his girlfriend was a patient “and I'm going to bring the heat,” according to documents. “If she kills my baby, I'm going to kill her.”
He also called several hours later and threatened to bomb the facility, prompting an investigation by the Columbus police Counterterrorism Unit, which searched the building and surrounding area for explosives, according to documents.
Investigators later confirmed Brime made the calls.
Brime remained in custody Friday, with an arraignment scheduled for Thursday. He's facing up to 10 years in prison for violating the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, making threatening statements through interstate communications and making a bomb threat.
In January, Brime pleaded guilty in Franklin County Common Pleas Court to possession of cocaine and improper handling of a firearm, according to court documents. He was placed under community control for two years, with requirements that he not leave the state without permission and other sanctions.
About a month later, the court formally declared Brime had “absconded from the jurisdiction,” and his community control was suspended, according to documents. Franklin County jail records indicate he was arrested for a felony probation violation in early May and for possession of cocaine in early June. mkovac@dispatch.com @Ohiocapitalblog
