Food Hall to get Mrs. Turbo’s Cookies
Powell cookie seller sets up shop in Budd Dairy
A baker known for its eclectic cookies recently took over the rotating vendor slot at the Budd Dairy Food Hall in Italian Village.
Mrs. Turbo’s Cookies opened Tuesday at the gathering place on North Fourth Street. The cookie seller has a permanent location in Powell
The hall has 10 vendors, called chef partners, along with a bar on each of its two stories and a patio on the roof.
The space includes a space called Sugar, a rotating kitchen for a dessert vendor.
Turbo’s owner Holly Schaffner reached out to Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, which operates Budd Dairy, when she heard about the venture at the beginning of the year.
“With the pandemic, that kind of delayed everything,” Schaffner said.
But neither side gave up on the idea, and Mrs. Turbo’s eventually brought its concept to Italian Village.
The bakery sells more than 30 flavors of cookies, but the space at Budd Dairy limits the menu for the Italian Village kitchen.
“We’ll probably bring 6 or 8 of those (to Budd Dairy) and rotate them in and out,” Schaffner said.
The menu will include several items exclusive to the new location, she said.
The treats are cooked in Powell and shipped directly to Budd Dairy, Schaffner said.
Turbo’s sells popular flavors such as chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin, but also offers more creative options like Death by Dark Chocolate and an M&M sugar cookie.
Schaffner said she sells treats with a retro, 1950s theme.
The bakery also sells brownies, cakes, and other assorted treats.
The cookie retailer opened its first store in Gahanna in 2015. That location has since shuttered, but the Powell location, which opened in 2018, remains open.
Turbo’s ships nationally, and delivers to local consumers from its Powell storefront. pcooley@dispatch.com @Patrickacooley
