Fowler, Roger W.
Roger W. Fowler, passed away September
3, 2021, in Jacksonville,
FL. He was 82.
He was born in Columbus,
Ohio to Virginia Margaret (Gaitten) and Charles
George Fowler. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and served honorably for 8 years. Roger had initially visited Amelia Island while serving in the Marine Corps at NAS Jacksonville. He and his wife Susan fell in love with Amelia Island after visiting in the 1980s and made their home on the island in 1990. Their mutual love of travel took them to
Okinawa, Japan for 8 years and Stuttgart, Germany for 9 years. Roger and Susan traveled extensively in Asia and across Europe. He was an Electronic Technician for the US Air Force and retired after 30 combined years of Federal Service at
Newark Air Force Station,
Ohio and Kadena Air Base,
Japan. Roger was an active member of the United
States Coast Guard Auxiliary
Flotilla 14-1 on Amelia
Island and retired after serving as Operations Staff
Officer for several years. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan (Mccoy) Fowler;
two daughters, Teresa
Fowler and husband, David
Workman of Morgan Hill,
CA, and Lisa and husband,
Stacy Reisinger of Spring
Hill, FL; eight grandchildren, Lindsey Thompson,
Christopher Stentz, Jessica
Lee, Tracy Lee, Lucas Dawson,
Arabella Workman,
Kasey Reisinger, Makenzie
Reisinger; and great granddaughter, Evelyn
Thompson. He had previously been married to Patsy
Maiola, who is deceased.
Following cremation, Roger’s
remains will be buried at sea. A memorial service will be held later at Jacksonville
National Cemetery.
