Mccall, Georgeann

1927 - 2021

-

Georgeann “Cal” Mccall, born November 25, 1927 in Columbus to the late

George Thomas and Verdi

Maurine (Watson) Owston, entered into eternal rest on August 24, 2021. Cal grew up in Youngstown and attended South High

School. She graduated from the Ohio State University in 1949 and was affiliated with Kappa Delta Sorority.

While in school, she met and married another

Youngstowner, Lynn E.

Mccall, her husband of 42 years. Together they raised their family in Worthington.

Following her many years as a caregiver to her husband, Cal, a devoted gardener, studied horticulture a Master Gardener. She volunteered in the Victory

Garden at Ameriflora ‘92, the perennial garden at the Park of Roses with

Northview Buckeye Garden

Club, Inniswood Metro

Gardens and the Inniswood

Garden Society. She was a Master Ohio Landscape

Design Consultant of the Garden Club of

Ohio, Inc. and served as a member of the Horticulture

sub-commission of Columbus Recreation & Parks. She maintained the entrance gardens and served as beautification chairman for her sub-division in Sharon Woods. She enjoyed serving on OSU’S class of 1949 reunion committee and remained connected with members.

Since her husband Lynn preceded her in death in 1992, Cal dedicated “The

Mccall Spruce Garden” at

Chadwick Arboretum in his honor. She is survived by her children, Michael, Scott (Tracy), Lynn II, Leslie (Rodger) Ressa; grandchildren,

Ashley Mccall, Aaron and

Spencer Ressa, Sam (Joy)

Mccall; great-grandchildren, Eva Ann and Gideon; and many nieces and nephews. Cal’s family and many friends will miss her laughter and light-hearted humor, enthusiasm for volunteerism, commitment to community and friendship.

Cal’s friends knew that if she wasn’t attending a play at Otterbein, playing bridge, volunteering at Sharon

Woods, pulling weeds in the perennial garden, or pruning the rosemary at Inniswood

they could always find her in her well-tended garden. Cal has generously donated her body to the

OSU Anatomy Department for the advancement of medical science and education. Memorial contributions may be made to the “Mccall Spruce Garden” at Chadwick Arboretum at the Ohio State University, 2120 Fyffe Rd, Columbus,

OH 43210, or The ALS

Association, 1170 Old

Henderson Rd., Suite 221,

Columbus, OH 43220.

Friends and family may attend a celebration of life at Newcomer Funeral Home in Westerville on October 3 with a simple service at 3pm followed by visitation with friends and family 3:30-5pm.
