BIG TEN ROUNDUP

-

No. 8 Cincinnati 38, Indiana 24

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Desmond Ridder threw the go-ahead touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter, then scored on a 7-yard TD run to help Cincinnati (3-0) seal a come-from-behind win at Indiana (1-2).

Jerome Ford ran for two scores and Tre Tucker scored on a 99-yard kickoff return as the Bearcats won their first road game of the season. They’ve won 12 of 13 since the start of 2020.

Indiana lost despite taking a 14-0 lead – and playing in front of its largest crowd for a non-conference game since September 1987.

The turning point came when starting linebacker Micah Mcfadden was ejected for targeting late in the first half. The Bearcats, who struggled to move the ball, scored 10 points in the final 93 seconds of the first half and finally took the lead on Ford’s 3-yard TD run in the third quarter.

No. 25 Michigan 63, N. Illinois 10

ANN ARBOR, Mich – Blake Corum rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns as Michigan (3-0) routed Northern Illinois (1-2).

The Wolverines scored touchdowns on their first nine drives, eight of them on the ground. The 10th drive also included a touchdown run, but it was called back for a holding penalty and Michigan turned the ball over on downs. The Wolverines never punted.

Northern Illinois responded with its touchdown with 8:28 to play.

The Huskies kicked a field goal on their second possession of the game, but it was already clear they were in major trouble.

Maryland 20, Illinois 17 (Friday)

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Joseph Petrino kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired to lift Maryland (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten) over Illinois (1-3, 1-1).

But the win didn’t come easy for the Terrapins in their conference opener.

In a game best described as weird from beginning to end, the normally explosive Terrapins consistently had trouble against a tough Illinois defense. Taulia Tagovailoa passed for 350 yards (32 of 43) but was held to only one passing touchdown.

Tayon Fleet-davis carried the ball 11 times for 62 yards for Maryland. He also caught the lone touchdown pass from Tagovailoa.

Illinois quarterback Brandon Peters, in his first start since being injured early in the first game of the season against Nebraska, was effective but clearly rusty for Illinois. He was 10-of-26 passing for 185 yards and one interception.
