City broke law by displaying tattered flags

-

Marine Dano Paulsen was absolutely correct in remediating those flags and Shelby, as a government entity, the city of Shelby had violated U.S. Code Title 36 – Patriotic Societies and Observances.

Celebrating, respecting and honoring veterans, our history and our flag does not stop at just jamming poles in the ground with flags waving.

There are protocols to be followed, in particular replacing worn flags. As a government entity, the city of Shelby should be held to the standard and should exonerate Mr. Paulsen.

And the court, representing the U.S. Constitution and laws, should have done their research and recognized that Paulsen, as a U.S. Marine (yes, even after discharge), was operating as a U.S. government/marine Corps representative in ensuring that those flags were honored as appropriate.

If you’re going to honor the flag and our country, educate yourself and follow through all the way, up to when you are taking those flags down, folding properly and ensuring they do not touch the ground.
