Orange Township selects permanent new administrator

- Dean Narciso Columbus Dispatch USA TODAY NETWORK

Orange Township trustees voted Monday to appoint Michele Boni as the township’s new administrator, the fourth person to fill the post in the past five years.

Boni, employed by the township for almost six years, had previously been the planning and zoning director for the township in Delaware County. She became interim administrator in May after Andrew King was fired. Trustee Debbie Taranto filled the role for a few weeks before Boni took over on an interim basis.

Trustees had discussed conducting a search for a permanent replacement but never held interviews for the few candidates who had shown interest in the job, Trustee Ryan Rivers said.

Boni, whom trustees and others have called a competent leader with a professional demeanor, will be paid $115,500 annually, according to her contract. That is about the same as King, who was fired without explanation.

Previous administrators have filed lawsuits against the township, had internal conflicts with trustees and have left or been removed amid turmoil.

Ben Grumbles, trustee chairman, praised Boni before the unanimous vote.

“The culture of the team that you’re building has definitely occurred with your leadership,” he said. dnarciso@dispatch.com @Deannarciso
