Ledecky moving with eye on future Olympics

- Christine Brennan

At the recent Tokyo Olympics, 24-year-old American swimming star Katie Ledecky was adamant that she was not even considering retiring, but instead was moving full steam ahead for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, and perhaps even for Los Angeles in 2028.

She backed up those words in a major way Wednesday morning by announcing that she was leaving her Stanford training base to move to the University of

Florida, where she will train with coach Anthony Nesty and his world-class stable of distance and middle-distance male swimmers, including double Olympic gold medalist Bobby Finke.

“Stanford has been my second home for the last five years. It will always have a special place in my heart. Having completed my college degree this year, I am moving east to be closer to home and family,” she tweeted.

“I’ve decided to train at the University of Florida with Coach Anthony Nesty and the outstanding middistance and distance training group there. I’m looking forward to the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in the next phase of my swimming career.”

Ledecky, the most decorated female swimmer in history, won two gold medals and two silver medals in July in Tokyo. She won the 800-meter freestyle for the third consecutive Olympic Games as well as the inaugural women’s 1,500 freestyle. She won a silver medal in the highly anticipated 400 free against Australia’s Ariarne Titmus, who won the gold, as well as anchoring the U.S. team to a silver in the 4x200 free relay.
