Fall ushers in a favorite time of year – and Halloween

- Becky Kover

I would loathe the end of summer if it weren’t for the fact that it’s replaced with fall.

Of course, I’ll miss the flowers, vegetables, fruits and colors of the summer season.

But fall is one of my favorite times of the year: cool autumn nights with the window open; the changing of the foliage to brilliant oranges, reds and yellows; and the spectacular hues of mums.

Who can resist that? Not me. Plus, fall ushers in a fun and festive time of the year: Halloween.

Scarecrows, witches, goblins and skeletons will soon be adorning homes inside and outside.

I don’t remember decorating much as a kid, probably because we lived in the country and never had trick-or-treaters.

But as an adult, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed supplanting summertime decor with fall themes.

And even in these times of COVID, it offers a chance to give the house a refresher, even if scores of other people likely won’t be visiting again this year.

If you, like me, are eager to decorate, we’d love to hear from you. Here’s what to do: h Share why you or your family looks forward to decorating for Halloween each year.

h Do you decorate inside and outside?

h Does your neighborhood get in on the action, too? If so, tell us a bit about that.

h We’d like you to share photos of your decor. Again, it can be inside, outside or both!

h Please include your name (or names if more than one person is in a photo or helps decorate) and your city of residence.

h Email your comments and photos to me at bkover@dispatch.com and please put in the subject line HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS.

h The photos must be high resolution (about 1 MB or larger).

• The deadline to submit entries: Thursday, Oct. 14.

I look forward to reading — and seeing — your Halloween style! bkover@dispatch.com @Koverbecky
