h Ronald H. Balson: The National Jewish Book Award winner has a new thriller — “Defending Britta Stein,” about a 90-year-old Chicago woman who accuses a popular Danish-american restaurant­eur of collaborat­ion with the Nazis during World War II. In a virtual event presented by Gramercy Books at 7 p.m. Sept. 28, Balson will be in conversati­on with Ohio State University professor of history and law, David Stebenne. h Theodora Dragostino­va: In a free event that will be both in-person and online, the author will discuss her new book, “The Cold War from the Margins,” at 7 p.m. Sept. 29, at the Bexley Public Library, 2411 E. Main St., Bexley. Dragostino­va’s book shows how a small socialisti­c state, Bulgaria, used cultural diplomacy to forge partnershi­ps with the United States, including Ohio. h Torrey Peters: The author will read from and discuss her novel, “Detransiti­on, Baby,” in a free in-person event at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 29, in the Benes Room of the Hamilton Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware. Peters’ book follows three women whose lives are impacted by an unexpected pregnancy and who confront issues of motherhood, gender and sex. h Lauren Ko: In a virtual event, the author of “Pieometry: Modern Tart Art and Pie Design for the Eye and the Palate,” will discuss and demonstrat­e her artistry with things sweet and savory at 7 p.m. Sept. 30. h Laura van den Berg: The author will give a reading and participat­e in a conversati­on in a virtual event presented by Ohio State University’s Department of English at 4 p.m. Oct. 1.
