Andy, Sylvia, 16, and Liz Shafran enjoy the sukkah they built in the backyard of their Columbus home for the 7-day Jewish holiday of Sukkot, which ends Monday. “Usually we go to the synagogue, but with COVID we decided to build one in our backyard,” Liz said. The Shafrans have their meals in the sukkah and have invited friends to dine with them. They plan to use the hut for as long as possible. “It started with a plan this would cost $150, but with the price of lumber, we’re planning on getting a few years out of this,” Andy said.
