Dismissed OSU linebacker Pope enters transfer portal
Linebacker K'vaughan Pope, who was dismissed from Ohio State's football team on Sunday, entered the NCAA'S transfer portal on Monday.
Pope, a senior, was escorted to the locker room by a team official in the second quarter of Ohio State's victory over Akron after he had an outburst on the sideline. Pope then tweeted an expletive toward Ohio State, which he then deleted.
In his postgame press conference, Ohio State coach Ryan Day declined to comment, saying he needed to learn exactly what happened. On Sunday, Day issued a statement saying that Pope had dismissed from the team but that he would be allowed to remain on scholarship for the rest of the semester.
Pope, from Dinwiddie, Virginia, apologized for his actions in a tweet on Sunday.
By transferring after only four games, Pope will retain a year of eligibility. Once a player plays in his fifth game, that counts as a year of eligibility.
Pope is the second senior Buckeye linebacker to enter the portal in the last week. Dallas Gant, a Toledo native, announced his intention to transfer on Wednesday. brabinowitz@dispatch.com @brdispatch
