Milton Wyman DVM, MS, ACVO, of Delaware, Ohio, passed away on September 27, 2021. Milton was born on October 11, 1930, to Sam and Elsie Wyman in Cleveland, Ohio. After Milt graduated from Auburn High School in 1948, he went on to study animal husbandry at The Ohio State University. He left the university for a time to work on cattle ranches in Mississipp­i and Georgia. In 1958, Milton returned to The Ohio State University where he received his degree in veterinary medicine in 1963. He entered graduate school to study ophthalmol­ogy in animals and humans. Successful­ly completing that, he and twenty-two others founded the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmol­ogy to form residencie­s in veterinary ophthalmol­ogy. The first such program was establishe­d at OSU College of Veterinary

Medicine by Dr. Wyman. He continued to teach in that

field at OSU for over thirty

years and served as Dean of Student Affairs until his retirement from OSU. He went on to teach Veterinary Ophthalmol­ogy at the University of Pennsylvan­ia for three and a half years and practiced at Medvet Columbus for several more years. He consulted with several companies and for the National Eye Institute at NIH in research and has been instrument­al in devel

oping a drug to help fight

eye disease in animals with diabetes. He has received numerous awards and recognitio­ns for his work and research in veterinary ophthalmol­ogy, and for other phases of veterinary medicine. He served as Ohio Veterinary Medicine President and on the AVMA college accreditat­ion team, ACVO President and many other profession­al organizati­ons. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy of character, philanthro­pic work, and faith through his work as a Mason, his stewardshi­p with Andrews House where he was a life board member, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, and Canine Companions for Inpendence. Milton loved snow skiing with his family,

fishing, woodworkin­g and

creating beautiful stained glass pieces. He is survived by his wife, Marlyn of six

ty-five years; daughter, Karen Myers and her husband,

James; son, James; beloved

grandchild­ren, James and Daniel Myers, Eve Lyons, Emmett Wyman, Celeste D’amanda and Zachary

Wyman; brother, Robert Wyman and wife, Susan;

and his brother, Marvin

Wyman; sister-in-law, Dana Sue Percer; special nieces

and nephews, Beth Tully, Penny Wyman, Ann Percer, David Percer and John Percer, Daniel, Micheal, and

Jonathan Wyman; beloved daughters-in-law, Karen Wyman and Elizabeth Lyons;

many more loved nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends, and cherished ophthalmol­ogy residents of whom he was so proud. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Thursday, September 30,

at the Rutherford Funeral
