Supreme Court should recognize its responsibility isn’t to please majority
The headline in the Sept. 26 Dispatch “With poll numbers down, justices say decisions aren’t rooted in partisanship” tells the whole, appalling story.
The point being (for those many readers who think the majority must be right) that the Supreme Court is not entrusted to make the majority of the people content; rather its sole purpose is to interpret the law as established. Whether that interpretation is pleasing to the people is of absolutely no significance.
Please, review what you learned in your government class about the three major divisions of our federal government and the responsibilities of each.
The appalling part about the story is not only that the Associated Press would pay any attention to such a poll, but also that any justices would even have to bother to defend themselves or the court.
