Mary Andrews Mitchell, age 95, of Plain City, ”Village Greatest Spokespers­on” passed away Saturday morning, October 2, 2021 at Prestige Gardens in Marysville, Ohio. Born May 15, 1926 in Plain City. Retired from Citizen’s National Bank in 2004 after 60 years of service, starting in 1944 (the day after her high school graduation) at the former Farmer’s National Bank as a teller, promoted to Cashier, then Vice President, President, Director and for the last 11 years as VP and Manager of the Plain City office. Extremely active in the Plain City community for over 60 years, from making sandwiches at the VFW Darby Post #3268 to welcoming new residents to Plain City. Former Treasurer for the Plain City Business Associatio­n (93-07) and recognized by the Union County

Chamber of Commerce Salute to Business Leaders in 1984 for her dedication and community leadership. She was also recognized by the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging for those

who have made significan­t

contributi­ons to the community; one of 11 outstandin­g older adults, inducted in 2008 into the 33rd annual Central Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame. Lifetime member of the Plain City Historical Society and secretary (93-07) Lifetime member of the Union County Historical Society and past President. Member DAC, Plain City Old Trials Chapter of Columbus, State Regent (66-69) and national treasurer of DAC (76-79). Member of the Jonathan Alder Alumni Associatio­n, taking ticket orders for over 60 years. Taught hundreds of children Piano and had 48 recitals displaying the students talents over the years, she herself was an accomplish­ed pianist and also trumpet player. Board member of the Union County Community Concerts Associatio­n. Longtime member of The Book Club founded in 1939, which establishe­d the Plain City Library. Former active member of the Plain City Presbyteri­an Church, as the

Fellowship Advisor. Preceded in death by parents Tunys and Dorothea (Dunfee) Andrews. Mary was saddened by the death of her son David L. Mitchell in 2016, brother-in-law Burl J. Mayer, nephew Andy Mayer. Survived by grandchild­ren, Michael Mitchell, Alice Mitchell, and their mother, Molly Mitchell; sisters, Dormalee “Nicky” Mayer of Plain City, Patricia (Don) Brown of IN, Alice (Robert) Duchesne of FL; nieces, nephews and great-niece and great-nephews.
