A Harrison West hotel that emphasizes exercise and is intended for long stays unveiled itself to the public this week.

The Hyatt House Osu/short North has been open since July, but held a grand opening Thursday with a tailgate party and tours of the building.

The hotel sits at 633 W. Fifth Ave. and has 152 rooms, some of which feature Peloton bikes and a handful of free weights.

A fitness center has another two Peloton bikes, along with several treadmills, stationary bikes, multiple racks of free weights, and a separate room with yoga mats.

The Olentangy trail sits adjacent to the building and hotel staff will rent bikes to customers. The building is a 10- to 15minute walk from Ohio Stadium along the trail and roughly a mile separates the hotel from the shops, restaurants and bars that populate the Short North.

“This is more of a lifestyle/fitness focused hotel,” General Manager Victor Patterson said. “We incorporated a lot more fitness aspects than you would typically see in a Hyatt House.”

Around 1,500 square feet of outdoor space includes a bocce ball court, a fire pit surrounded by couches and chairs, a small dog park, two grills for customer use, and a courtyard intended for gatherings like wedding receptions and corporate get-togethers.

Guests enjoying outdoor activities can order drinks from the lobby bar through a service window.

Hotel staff added the window due to the pandemic, hoping to give customers a way to stay outside where the chances of COVID infection are drastically lower, and it turned out to be one of the hotel's most popular features, Patterson said.

Of the hotel's 152 rooms, 106 are studio or one-bedroom suites, Patterson said. The rest are “just your standard, typical hotel room” intended for people staying only one or two nights, he said.

The suites resemble small apartments, complete with kitchens, desks, and couches surrounding a flatscreen television.

“Those rooms are geared toward people who are going to stay five or more

nights,” Patterson said.

The roughly 2,000 square feet of indoor meeting space includes a 1,000square-foot meeting room that can be divided in two if necessary.

Nightly rates range from $129 to $349 a night depending on date, length of stay and the size of the room, a hotel spokesperson said. pcooley@dispatch.com @Patrickacooley
