MEET JASON

-

Jason’s family knows they are very lucky. When he was born, they were told that they’d have a better chance of winning the lottery than Jason surviving. He was born with trisomy 15, a rare chromosomal condition. For ten years, Jason only had focal seizures which only occur in one hemisphere of the brain. But when he had his first grand mal seizure in 2012, Jason came to Nationwide Children’s and underwent lots of testing until he was diagnosed with epilepsy. To prevent future seizures from spreading from one side of his brain to the other, Jason’s physicians recommended a Complete Corpus Colostomy.

After a 16-hour surgery, Jason spent 60 days at Nationwide Children’s relearning almost every part of his life, including speaking, feeding himself and walking. “We are so grateful for Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The love and care they gave our family at a very difficult time, it’s worth the two-and-a-half-hour drive. If it wasn’t for his specialists, he wouldn’t be where he is today,” says Jason’s mom, Julie.

Today Jason is 19 and a senior in high school. He has fallen back in love with his favorite sport, football, and loves and spending time with his family – especially his beloved nephew, Colton.
