Conservation act will benefit more than just environment
The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act is important for our state of Ohio and the diverse wildlife and ecosystems that call our state home. Because the act will provide $1.4 billion to both state and tribal wildlife agencies nationwide, conservation is a muchneeded lift in budgetary support that will translate to improved habitat on the ground.
Thank you, Sen. Rob Portman, for supporting this bill, which will make sure at-risk species like lake sturgeon, the Monarch butterfly and Northern bobwhite quail will not be placed on the federal endangered species list. This will provide greater regulatory certainty for industries including mining, energy, forestry and others. It will also help create jobs — for every $1 million invested in species and habitat conservation, between 17 and 33 quality jobs are created each year.
The act will create 33,600 jobs annually nationwide with its investments into local conservation efforts, and those conservation efforts will be compounding. By improving habitat for one species, all species benefit, including wild game like Eastern wild turkey because they share habitat with pollinating invertebrates, grassland songbirds and other species of concern.
