Columbus a product of his times

-

I think we have statues because statues teach us about the past. We all know that no one is perfect. St. Paul tells us that masters should respect their slaves and the slaves should respect their masters.

He wasn’t about to upset the ancient world’s views on slavery. Christopher Columbus was a child of his time just like St. Paul was. We owe our new world to him. Shame on those who took his statue away. Should we rename St. Paul’s cathedral and all the other churches named after him? No one is perfect, we are children of our times. Let us learn from our past without a feeling of guilt; learning is always painful.
