Don’t erase history, learn from it
I’m sure Randall Condra’s column will cause an uproar, and the Taylor Jones political cartoon showing Columbus as Hitler will anger others. Although our American heritage is not pristine, like the history books we learned from, one fact is we learn from the past as we continue to explore our history.
So much new information is becoming available through research. What we once believed as historic fact is now understood as partial or incomplete truths.
If we continue to erase and hide the personalities like Columbus, Thomas Jefferson, Robert E. Lee and the issue of slavery, what will future generations be taught. History should be current knowledge, there to be explored and better understood for all Americans.
