Jewelry store will once again hide gifts

- Jeff Barron

LANCASTER — For the second holiday season in a row, Wendel’s Diamond Jewelers owners Jon and Stephanie Palestrant will place 50 presents downtown as a sort of scavenger hunt for people to find.

The Finder’s Keepers event will start at 10 a.m. Nov. 27 in conjunction with Small Business Saturday and go until Christmas Eve or until all 50 boxes have been found.

The boxes will contain information the finder will take to store and receive the gift assigned to that box. Gifts will include gift certificates, bracelets, Pandora jewelry items and more.

“It’s just a whole smorgasbord of goodies,” Stephanie Palestrant said.

The only restriction is that each household can only have one box or present.

“So if you find multiples, please leave it lay so other people can enjoy the fun and the games,” Stephanie Palestrant said.

The store last year gave out about 45 presents, with four or five people not redeeming their certificate.

“It was such a huge hit and wildly received last year,” Stephanie Palestrant said. “Jon and I have been so blessed and we’re grateful we’re able to do it again this year. We’re going to try to keep that tradition going year after year if we can and just spread a little holiday cheer around our community.”

While not a cheap endeavor, she said the business would not be where it’s at without friends and customers. Therefore, Stephanie Palestrant this is a way of giving back.

Like last year, if not all boxes are redeemed for a present, the Palestrants will donate the prizes throughout the community.

Stephanie Palestrant said it’s always fun when families can get together through an event like Finder’s Keepers.

“It’s not age-restricted,” she said. “So Mom and Dad and the kids, aunts, uncles, grandparents, whomever, can get together and can go out and have fun to hunt for a few minutes, a few hours or whatever that may be. It’s a nice fun family thing that everybody can do together. Everybody was super excited about last year, which was a really, really great feeling.”
