Statue ‘kidnapping’ blurred line between prank and crime

-

I respond to the Nov. 18 article “Lady of Justice returns,” about Richard Carey (pictured with a big smile on his face) who, with a couple of friends, stole the Lady of Justice statue from the Marion County courthouse in 1952 and stashed it in his barn for 28 years.

The tone of the article makes it sound as if this was nothing more than a harmless prank and paints Carey as some sort of folk hero.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I am not amused. Perhaps someone can explain to me (and to any children who might have read the article) the difference between a prank and a crime.
