No. 9 OSU women’s volleyball moves on in NCAA tournament

In the first round of the NCAA tournament against Howard, the Ohio State women’s volleyball team quickly took care of a highly overmatche­d team. Ninth-seeded Ohio State beat the Bison 3-0 (25-12, 25-7, 25-10) on Friday night at the Covelli Center.

Middle blocker Rylee Rader and outside hitter Jenaisya Moore led the Buckeyes with seven kills each, while hitting at least .500. Outside hitter Emily Gonzales and opposite hitter Emily Londot recorded five and four kills, respective­ly. Setter Mac Podraza recorded 24 assists. Ohio State forced Howard into 19 hitting errors.

Crew re-sign goalkeeper Room

The Crew has secured their starting goalkeeper for the next few seasons.

Eloy Room signed a two-year contract with a third-year option, keeping him under team control through the 2024 season when Room would turn 35.

Room has allowed 70 goals in 61 games played, including two playoff appearance­s, and has made 163 saves with 16 clean sheets. He was a finalist for MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2020.

Room is the second player the Crew has re-signed this season. The club announced an extension of Lucas Zelarayan’s contract on Thursday.

Room had a base salary of $425,004 in 2021 according to the MLS Players Associatio­n salary database.
