Powers, Buttermore earn All-ohio honors in Division I
The Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association named the 35th Mr. Football and announced the Division I All-ohio teams Thursday.
Medina quarterback Drew Allar, who will enroll at Penn State in January, is the 2021 Mr. Football. Upper Arlington running back Carson Gresock finished third in the Mr. Football voting behind Springfield quarterback Te’sean Smoot. After being named the Gatorade Ohio football player of the year earlier this week, Marysville linebacker Gabe Powers was honored as the defensive player of the year.
Upper Arlington coach Justin Buttermore, who led the Golden Bears to a 14-1 record and their first state semifinal since 2000 in just his second season, is the coach of the year.
Gresock is joined by New Albany running back Jadyn Garnes, Reynoldsburg receiver Markez Gillam, Marysville offensive lineman Gavin Rohrs and Olentangy Liberty offensive lineman Carter Smith on the first-team offense.
Pickerington Central defensive linemen CJ Doggette and Tyler Gillison earned first-team honors on defense, alongside Powers, Pickerington North linebacker Eli Coppess and Groveport defensive back Delaney Wilburn.
Reynoldsburg quarterback Dijon Jennings, Hilliard Darby quarterback Blake Horvath, New Albany offensive lineman Cade Leggio, Upper Arlington offensive lineman Jacob Pritchett and Hilliard Davidson kicker Aiden Ighnat were named to the second-team offense.
On defense, Dublin Jerome defensive lineman Kyler Larosa, Upper Arlington defensive back Doak Buttermore, Pickerington Central defensive back Sonny Styles and Westerville Central punter Jason Robertson earned second-team honors.
Upper Arlington quarterback Simon Monnin, New Albany quarterback Brock Kidwell, Hilliard Davidson running back Leo Nixon, Dublin Jerome wide receiver David Adolph and Hilliard Darby offensive lineman Hayden Gladden were named to the thirdteam offense.
Marysville defensive lineman Erryl Will, Dublin Coffman defensive lineman Will Smith, Marysville linebacker Colton Powers, Gahanna linebacker Jaden Yates, Upper Arlington linebacker Carter Brock and Hilliard Bradley defensive back Caden Vanvorhis were named to the third-team defense.
On offense, Dublin Jerome running back Preston Everhart, Thomas Worthington receiver Camden Beatty, Westerville North offensive lineman Nathan Dunfee and Pickerington Central offensive lineman Kyle Imboden received honorable mentions.
Gahanna defensive lineman Kamari Burns, Lancaster linebacker Ajay Locke, Hilliard Bradley linebacker Mitchell Robinson and Dublin Jerome defensive back Brady Sestili received honorable mentions on defense.
