Ohio State falls in Sweet 16 semifinal to Ga. Tech
The Ohio State women’s volleyball team lost to Georgia Tech in a straight sets (22-25, 24-26, 21-25) in an NCAA regional semifinal Thursday in Louisville, Kentucky.
“I’m sick of Sweet 16s already,” said junior setter Mac Podraza.
The Buckeyes were eliminated at the same stage last year when they fell to Florida.
“It is always tough to lose the last match of the season,” said coach Jen Flynn Oldenburg, “but I am proud of this group and where we have come in a short amount of time.”
Buckeyes freshman Arica Davis recorded a match-high four blocks to bring her season total to 146. That’s the third best single-season total in school history. Vanja Bukilic had a seasonhigh nine kills.
OSU finished 27-6. “There’s nothing to hang our hat on because we have a lot more to do, and there’s a lot more we want to do,” Podraza said.
“But there’s a lot to be proud of. We’re already talking about a Big Ten championship next year. We’re ready to go.”
