$1.25M gift for new curator at Ohio Wesleyan art museum
DELAWARE — The Richard M. Ross Art Museum at Ohio Wesleyan University has received a $1.25 million gift to establish the museum’s first full-time curator of collections position.
Sarah “Sally” Ross Soter of Palm
Beach, Fla. – a member of the Richard M. Ross family whose major gifts helped to establish the museum – donated the funds to create the William and Sarah Ross Soter Endowment.
The gift, said Ohio Wesleyan President Rock Jones, “will help the museum connect even more broadly with the campus and community as it continues to expand its standing and stature in the museum world.”
The museum’s director, Erin Fletcher, said the curator of collections will oversee the museum’s permanent teaching collection which includes more than 2,500 items. The position is expected to be filled in 2023.
Soter, who is the daughter of Richard M. and Elizabeth M. Ross, said that she and her family “are very happy to help the museum continue to grow. I am delighted to build on a legacy that honors both my father and my mother.”
Richard M. Ross died in 1993 and Elizabeth (Libby) Ross died in 2015.
The Ross Museum will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2022. For information about events at the museum, visit www.owu.edu/about/ross-artmuseum/
