NYC man sentenced to 24 years for fatal shooting in SE Side home
A New York City man charged in connection with the 2018 homicide of a Columbus man in his Southeast Side home has been sentenced to a total 24 years in prison.
Martin Lucky Wright, 49, was sentenced by Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge Daniel Hawkins on Wednesday for his guilty plea under a plea agreement to involuntary manslaughter and aggravated robbery charges with gun specifications in connection with the death of 43-yearold Donnelle Davenport.
Wright was sentenced to 11 years for involuntary manslaughter, seven years for aggravation burglary, and three years for each of the firearm specifications on those two charges, all to run concurrently. Hawkins gave Wright credit for 1,343 days in jail.
The judge also ordered Wright to serve two to five years of parole after his sentence.
According to court records, Wright and Sharayea O. Brown, 27, of Leonia, New Jersey, were accused of robbing and fatally shooting Davenport on Feb. 4, 2018 in the basement of Davenport's home in the 5300 block of Brayton Avenue on Columbus' Southeast Side.
Court records said Brown had been visiting with Davenport at the home prior to his death. Davenport left the home, according to surveillance footage police obtained from the house, and Wright arrived a short time later.
When Davenport returned home, investigators allege Brown did not tell Davenport that Wright was inside the house. The surveillance video shows Brown ran from the home shortly after the shooting took place, court records state.
Wright was also seen on the footage, a short time later, leaving Davenport's home with bags of Davenport's personal property.
Neither Brown nor Wright called 911 and both got into waiting vehicles at a nearby intersection, according to court records.
Davenport was found in the basement of the home around 8:30 p.m. by friends who had broken out a window to check on him.
