Kasich set to launch podcast with ‘Daily Show’ comedian

- Haley Bemiller

John Kasich is adding podcast host to his resume.

The former Ohio governor will launch a new series with comedian Jordan Klepper next year dubbed “Kasich & Klepper,” according to a news release from the podcast company Acast. The show aims to discuss politics, pop culture and more through a humorous lens, while seeking common ground on hot topics.

“Our goal is to provide a unique perspective on important issues facing us all – and because we don’t take ourselves too seriously, we’ll give listeners something to think about and perhaps laugh about,” Kasich said.

The podcast brings together two people on different parts of the political spectrum, although they share similar views of former President Donald Trump. Kasich, a Republican, served two terms as governor and launched a failed bid for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016. He’s long been critical of Trump and supported President Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

Klepper, a Michigan native, has worked on “The Daily Show” since 2014 under Jon Stewart and Trevor Noah. His recent videos feature satirical criticism of people who oppose COVID-19 vaccine mandates and peddle debunked claims of election fraud. He also interviewed people at the Jan. 6 insurrection.

“In these fractured times it takes a herculean effort – or a podcast – to get contrasting viewpoints to engage,” Klepper said. “Although Gov. Kasich may have differing political beliefs and is 300 years older than I am, I look forward to finding that elusive common ground that has been deemed extinct by modern historians.”

“Kasich & Klepper” will premiere in early 2022.
