Domestic violence victim identified

-

Columbus police have identified the victim and the suspect in what they say was a domestic violence homicide last week at a home on the Northeast Side.

At 8:26 p.m. Saturday, Columbus Division of Fire medics were called to a home on the 5100 block of Cleveland Avenue near Minerva Park on a report of an unconscious person.

After arriving at the scene, medics contacted police because they determined that the unconscious female, identified by police as 33-year-old Fatu Bangura, had been the victim of trauma.

Bangura was taken to Ohiohealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9 p.m., police reported. Her death was the 193rd homicide in the city in 2021, a recordbreaking year of killings.

A homicide detective said Bangura suffered blunt-force trauma, indicating that she was beaten. As a result of an investigation, detectives determined Bangura's death was the result of domestic violence.

Detectives report in a release that they have arrested and charged 41year-old Sheku Morieh with her murder.

Anyone with information about this or any homicide is asked to contact the homicide unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-4618477.
