Crew add two assistant coaches to staff
The Crew filled out their coaching staff for the 2022 season with the hiring of North Texas SC head coach Eric Quill and the promotion of Blair Gavin from video analyst to assistant coach.
Quill and Gavin replace Ezra Hendrickson and Ben Cross. Hendrickson and Cross were hired by Caleb Porter in 2019 and have been with the Crew the past three seasons.
Hendrickson was hired as the Chicago Fire’s new head coach, and Cross recently accepted an assistant coaching job with FC Dallas.
Neither Quill nor Gavin have previously held assistant coaching positions in Major League Soccer.
Quill was named U.S. Soccer Development Academy coach of the year in 2017 while he was with North Texas SC in America’s third division, USL League One. North Texas SC, which is the USL affiliate of FC Dallas, won a championship under Quill in 2019, earning him coach of the year honors.
During his time at the youth level and North Texas SC, Quill coached U.S. national team players Ricardo Pepi and
Chris Richards, as well as Tanner Tessman, who plays in Italy’s top league with Venezia.
Before joining the Crew as a video assistant, Gavin was an assistant coach with Phoenix Rising from 2018 to 2020. When Hendrickson missed time at the beginning of the 2021 season for what the Crew called a serious medical incident, Gavin stepped in.
