Alliance offers solutions to woman’s headstone woes

-

I am responding to the Dec. 17 column, “Grandmother: Supply-chain troubles turn getting a headstone into a screwball comedy,” by Jean Hayward. She wrote about some problems she encountered while pre planning funerals for her husband and herself.

I wish she had called the Funeral Consumers Alliance of Central Ohio, a 501 (c) (3), staffed by volunteers. Our mission is to promote end-of-life planning, to inform and instruct the public about the funeral industry, and to assist in discussing the most reasonably priced options for dealing with remains at death.

Hayward indicated that her husband wanted his ashes buried in his backyard.

If it is their property, rather than burying the ashes in a box, scattering them or putting them in the ball of a tree might be easier and thoughtful for the survivors down the road.

The cost of burial in a cemetery can be costly. The headstone is not included, and obtaining one could be a supplychain issue.
