Logue, Herbert

-

1928 - 2021

Our beloved father, Herbert Hoover Logue, age 93, of Groveport, received his invitation to heaven on December 21, 2021, at Taylor Springs Health Campus. He was born at home to the late Charles and Myrtle (George) Logue on a 400-acre farm outside of Gallipolis, Ohio, where he was then raised. He always loved to tell the story about how he was born on Election Day, Nov. 6, 1928, and named Herbert Hoover after the president elected that day. After attending school at Morgan Center, Eno, and Bidwell, he ran away from home at the age of 15, taking a train to see the big city of Columbus and look for a job. It turned out he couldn’t get a work permit because he was too young, so he was forced to return to the farm. Because of that, on a fateful day in the spring of 1946, he pulled over on a rural road and offered a ride home from church to the girl that ended up becoming his bride just 3 short months later. He married the love of his life, Gertrude, on July 20, 1946, and they enjoyed 64 wonderful years together raising their family before her passing in 2010. Farm work instilled a work ethic that remained with him throughout his life. His 38-year career as a machinist with North American Rockwell was marked with many awards for exceptional precision workmanship. His supervisor once commented that when he wasn’t there, it was like trying to drive a car down the street on 3 wheels. Over the years, Herbert enjoyed auto races, old-fashioned country music, watching ball games, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, hanging out with his White Castle buddies on Saturday afternoons, woodworking, and gardening. His green thumb nurtured the most beautiful flowers with his canna lilies being blue ribbon worthy. He especially treasured the memories he made with Gertrude during their trips to Hawaii.

Herbert was a devoted family man and spent his life dedicated to providing and caring for them. Left to cherish his memory are a son, Charles Logue; daughter, Linda Logue (Wayne Norviel); special brother-inlaw, Tandy Stewart, all of Groveport; brother, Denver (Rouie) Logue of Lexington, Ohio; sister, Iva Lou Brewer of Gallipolis, Ohio; sister-in-law, Grace Taylor of Melbourne, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
