Wade Smith, 83, of Marengo, Ohio opened his eyes in heaven on December 24, 2021 at Bennington Glen, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Wade was born on July 26, 1938 in Hindman, Kentucky to Ernest and Hattie Smith, who preceded him in death. He came to Columbus, Ohio as a young man to work in the building trade with his Uncle John. He establishe­d himself quickly as one of the best finish carpenters around. He was also known for his custom cabinetry and always had a waiting list of customers. He was a true perfection­ist and an artist who took great pride in what he created. Wade was a family man with a loving, tender heart and was affectiona­tely known by his family as being a “mother hen”. He was generous, kind and could never stand to see anyone suffer or go without and would often put down his hammer to go and buy the neighborho­od kids ice cream. Wade had a gift for music and enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. Left to mourn his passing are his daughters, Beverly (Jim) Thompson, Karen Shinaberry and Mari Beth (Andrew) Smith; grandchild­ren, Jay (Debby) Thompson, Kari (Brian) Carder, Kacie (Todd) Jamison, Kyle Shinaberry, Karter (Kacey) Shinaberry, Bella Smith and Philip Smith; great-grandchild­ren, Kendall, Wade, Michael, Devin, Caleb, Grace, Trevor, Trent, Trinity, Trace, Kennedy and Kamden; brothers, Sonny (Pat) Smith, Clyde (Barb) Smith, Don (Wilma) Smith; sister, Brenda (Gardner) Hays. In addition to his parents, Wade was preceded in death by his loving wife Mildred Smith, son-in-law Kevin Shinaberry, great-granddaugh­ter Libby Thompson, sister Sophia Slone, and his brothers Jimmy and Burnett Smith. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 12 – 2 pm at the Devore-snyder Funeral Home, St. Rt. 3 at 61, Sunbury, where funeral services will

follow at 2:00 pm officiated

by his sons-in-law Pastor Jim Thompson and Dr. Andrew Smith. Burial will be in Marengo Cemetery. The family has requested that all in attendance, please wear a mask. They have also requested if friends or family have come into contact with anyone that has been ill, please leave a condolence on the website and remain home, out of respect for those immunosupp­ressed guests.
