Smith, Wade
1938 - 2021
Wade Smith, 83, of Marengo, Ohio opened his eyes in heaven on December 24, 2021 at Bennington Glen, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Wade was born on July 26, 1938 in Hindman, Kentucky to Ernest and Hattie Smith, who preceded him in death. He came to Columbus, Ohio as a young man to work in the building trade with his Uncle John. He established himself quickly as one of the best finish carpenters around. He was also known for his custom cabinetry and always had a waiting list of customers. He was a true perfectionist and an artist who took great pride in what he created. Wade was a family man with a loving, tender heart and was affectionately known by his family as being a “mother hen”. He was generous, kind and could never stand to see anyone suffer or go without and would often put down his hammer to go and buy the neighborhood kids ice cream. Wade had a gift for music and enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. Left to mourn his passing are his daughters, Beverly (Jim) Thompson, Karen Shinaberry and Mari Beth (Andrew) Smith; grandchildren, Jay (Debby) Thompson, Kari (Brian) Carder, Kacie (Todd) Jamison, Kyle Shinaberry, Karter (Kacey) Shinaberry, Bella Smith and Philip Smith; great-grandchildren, Kendall, Wade, Michael, Devin, Caleb, Grace, Trevor, Trent, Trinity, Trace, Kennedy and Kamden; brothers, Sonny (Pat) Smith, Clyde (Barb) Smith, Don (Wilma) Smith; sister, Brenda (Gardner) Hays. In addition to his parents, Wade was preceded in death by his loving wife Mildred Smith, son-in-law Kevin Shinaberry, great-granddaughter Libby Thompson, sister Sophia Slone, and his brothers Jimmy and Burnett Smith. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 12 – 2 pm at the Devore-snyder Funeral Home, St. Rt. 3 at 61, Sunbury, where funeral services will
