Remote learning Monday at 11 Columbus schools
Columbus City Schools returned to classes on Monday, but students at 11 schools did so at home.
The district announced Sunday that 10 schools were closing due to staff shortages with one more closing added Monday morning — Valley Forge Elementary School, which went remote because of a “partial heating outage” at the school.
The schools that went remote Monday included:
● Berwick Alternative Elementary School
● Burroughs Elementary
● Duxberry Park Elementary
● Eastmoor Academy
● Johnson Park Middle School
● Linden Mckinley STEM Academy
● Marion-franklin High School
● Ridgeview Middle School
● South High School
● West Mound Elementary School
While students at the 11 schools were remote, staff were all expected to report on-site at the 10 schools, while teachers at Valley Forge Elementary were to do so as well.
Last week, the district announced they would be adopting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance on COVID-19 isolation and quarantining.
The CDC guideline states that those who test positive regardless of vaccination status are required to quarantine for five days. Those who are exposed to someone with COVID but are vaccinated do not need to quarantine, but should wear a mask around others for 10 days and test on the fifth day.
The school district mentioned in the message the possible staff shortages, and had advised students to bring their devices such as their Chromebooks home every day in case they need to shift to remote learning. mylee@dispatch.com @leem386
