Mount Gilead man killed in Morrow County crash

- Patrick Cooley

A Mount Gilead man is dead after a car crash Friday at a rest area off Interstate 71 in Morrow County, the Ohio Highway Patrol reports.

Nathaniel Bowman, 24, died at the scene of the crash, which took place around 3:45 a.m. in northwestern Chester Township.

Bowman drove his 2013 Honda Civic into a rest area for trucks off the northbound side of the interstate when he drifted onto the left shoulder and collided with the back of a parked tractor-trailer, according to the patrol.

Bowman’s Civic then swerved further north and struck another parked tractor-trailer, the patrol reported.

Hoshiar Singh, 34, of Stockton, California, was asleep in the first semi, and Kevin Salata, 57, of Youngstown, was resting in the cab of the second semi at the time of the crash, the patrol said. Neither was injured.

Bowman was not wearing a seatbelt, the patrol reported. pcooley@dispatch.com @Patrickacooley
