‘Parcel of rogues’ responsible for inequity in property taxes
A few years ago, we attended a meeting hosted by the City of Columbus’ Development Department regarding tax abatements in the Victorian Village/ Short North area. At the meeting, we were told our area no longer needs tax abatements, which was welcome news since neighborhood property taxes have skyrocketed.
Imagine our surprise to see a sign in front of a new build at 242 Buttles proclaiming tax abatements as part of their marketing. For $750,000, buyers can secure a 2-bedroom, 3-bath unit without paying a dime in property tax.
Is it just me or is it reasonable to assume that anyone with 750,000 smackers to put down on a 2-bedroom unit has enough coin to shell out taxes supporting our schools?
The taxes on our own property nearby are just short of $10,000 a year. Guess we’ll skip the next meeting. What a parcel of rogues these people are.
