Will Tube for Food

When: 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday

Where: Snow Trails, 3100 Possum Run Road, Mansfield

Descriptio­n: Snow Trails will donate $5 from every discounted $23 two-hour tubing ticket at the tubing park to Catalyst Life Services. Each guest is also asked to donate a non-perishable food item that will be collected at the tubing park’s ticket hut.

Mike Tonkovich stood at the base of the hill sporting a grin and holding his cellphone aloft to capture the moment as his 12-year-old son Mikey sped down the snowy slope on his snowboard. ● As the boy expertly weaved his way downhill at Snow Trails ski resort near Mansfield, Tonkovich laughed and gave him an approving thumbs up. ● “He loves it,” said Tonkovich, 42. ● Tonkovich said he and his son, who is homeschool­ed, spend most of the year traveling for the boy’s BMX competitio­ns. But during the off-season in the winter, there’s nowhere Mikey would rather be, his father said, than on the slopes.
