Stuckey, Ronald Lewis
Ronald Lewis Stuckey, PH.D. was born on January 9, 1938 in Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio. Ronald passed away on January 11, 2022 at The Sanctuary at Tuttle Crossing in Dublin, Ohio. His parents, Leora Irene (Shuey) and Guy Ralph Stuckey predeceased him, along with his younger brother Darwin. Several Shuey cousins survive. As a child, Ronald attended St. John’s Baseline United Church of Christ. He attended and graduated from Lykens Township School as their valedictorian in 1956. After high school Ronald attended Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. He graduated “cum laude” in 1960 with a major in Biology. Ronald was awarded a fellowship to attend the University of Michigan. He received a M.A. in Botany in 1962 and decided to continue his education at the University of Michigan where he received his PH.D. in 1965.
In the autumn of 1965, Dr. Stuckey was appointed to assistant professor of Botany at The Ohio State University. He would remain at Ohio State through his professional career. Upon his retirement in 1991, Dr. Stuckey was appointed Emeritus Professor of Botany at Ohio State. He continued to conduct research involving invasive aquatic and wetland plants and their migration in Eastern North America. Dr. Stuckey also published 12 books and over 200 research papers. Dr. Stuckey is a member of Botanical Society of America; Native Plant Society of Northeastern Ohio; Ohio Academy of Science; Ohio Biological Survey; Ohio Natural Areas and Preserves Association; Southern Appalachian Botanical Club; Tri Beta in Biology (Heidelberg College); Columbus Natural History Society; Ohio Academy of Medical Science.
Dr. Stuckey’s funeral will be held at 1PM Monday, January 17, 2022 at St. John’s Baseline United Church of Christ with Pastor Mike Ebersole officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Creek Cemetery, Seneca County, Ohio. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 from 11AM-1PM at the church prior to the funeral service.
