Sheldon’s career night leads Ohio State past MSU

- Staff reports

Jacy Sheldon scored a career-high 33 points to lead Ohio State past Michigan State 89-83 at the Schottenstein Center and improve the Buckeyes record to 14-3 on the season.

In addition to Sheldon's big night, Taylor Mikesell registered 25 points and was 5-for-8 from 3-point range. Rebeka Mikulasikova had her second straight double-double of the year and third of the season with 13 points, 11 rebounds. The forward recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds in Sunday's 7461 win over Northwestern.

Momentum from that game, however, did not carry over and OSU found themselves down 31-21 to the Spartans with 8:29 remaining in the second quarter.

“It was a quick turnaround from Northwestern and we didn't look like we started with the same energy,” said Buckeyes coach Kevin Mcguff. “We made some adjustments, quit pressing and tried to settle down a little bit.”

Of Sheldon's 33 points, 20 came after halftime. She was 12-for-15 shooting on the night.

Ohio State's next game is a 6 p.m. road tipoff against Minnesota on Saturday.

Another scheduling note

The home game between Ohio State and Penn State originally scheduled for Jan. 3 has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 24. The game was postponed due to positive COVID-19 results within the Nittany Lions' program.
