Edward Lawrence Zoretic died peacefully at home on March 18th, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio at the age of 94. Ed is survived by his wife Linda of 66 years and his four children Ann Zoretic Ansel, Daniel (Becky), Amy Maggard (Mark) and Pete (Monika). Ed was born on September 3rd, 1927 in Bobtown, PA to the late John and Anna Zoretic. Ed and his late younger brother John grew up in a coal mining company town where Ed graduated in 1945 from Point Marion High School. Ed excelled at sports despite football only being offered his senior year due to the war. Ed earned a football and an

College in the fall of 1945. Cadet Zoretic studies were interrupte­d in 1946 when he was called to active duty and promoted to Sergeant. Knowing how to type, he

was assigned as an office

clerk and remained stateside while his unit served in Europe. Ed returned to Eastern Kentucky to resume his studies and played halfback on the football team. He was selected as an All American Halfback in 1950. Before graduation, Second Lieutenant Zoretic was again called to active duty and attended Artillery School. He served as an instructor at Fort Sill, Oklahoma teaching artillery before reporting to the Peoples Republic of South Korea. First Lieutenant Zoretic served as a Forward Observer and 105 Howitzer Battery Commander during his time in Korea. In October of 1952, he participat­ed in Operation White Horse and was awarded the Bronze Star. In 1953 Ed returned to Eastern

Kentucky and finished his

undergradu­ate studies. Ed began his teaching and coaching career at Portsmouth High School, Ohio.

He served as The Dean of

Boys and Assistant Football Coach while earning a Master’s Degree in Education at the University of West Virginia. In 1955, Ed married Linda Brushart. In 1962 Ed, Linda and now family relocated to Grandview Heights, Ohio. Ed worked as a principal in the Southwest City school system for the next 25 years. Grandview Heights Library Board, Ohio’s Korean War Veterans Advisory Board and Condominiu­m Board at their winter residence in Stuart, Florida. Ed enjoyed family, friends, wood working, nature, being a handy man and living a successful life that included 11 grandchild­ren and 9 great grandkids with more on the way! Edward L. Zoretic was a true gentleman, never harsh in tone, gave warranted advice, patient and tolerant to all. He taught one to use their minds and their hands to make things happen.
