Kentucky man indicted in mayoral candidate shooting case

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A Kentucky man who police said fired a handgun at a Louisville mayoral candidate has been indicted on attempted murder and endangerme­nt charges.

Quintez Brown, 21, was arrested shortly after the Feb. 14 shooting. The mayoral candidate, Craig Greenberg, was not hit by the gunfire at his campaign office but said a bullet grazed his sweater.

A grand jury in Louisville on Monday indicted Brown on one count of attempted murder and four counts of first-degree wanton endangerme­nt. Four of Greenberg’s staffers were nearby when the shooting occurred, according to a media release from Jefferson County Commonweal­th’s Attorney Tom Wine.

Missouri participan­t in Capitol riot charged in fatal crash

UNION, Mo. – A woman photograph­ed carrying a wooden name plate torn from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrecti­on faces felony charges for allegedly driving drunk and causing a fatal wreck in Missouri.

Emily Hernandez, 22, of Sullivan,

Missouri, is charged with driving while intoxicate­d involving the death of another and DWI involving serious physical injuries. She was charged Thursday. Her attorney, Ethan Corlija, said Monday that he will seek a reduction of Hernandez’s $250,000 bond. She has not yet entered a plea.

The accident happened in January on the eve of the first anniversar­y of the insurrecti­on. Hernandez is accused of going the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 44. Her Volkswagen Passat struck a 2019 Buick Enclave. Victoria Wilson, 32, of St. Clair, Missouri, died and Wilson’s husband was injured.

Michael Flynn’s onetime business partner to have new trial

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A federal judge ordered a new trial for a onetime business

partner of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn accused of acting as an unregister­ed agent of the Turkish government.

The ruling Friday from U.S. District Judge Anthony Trenga is the latest twist in the long-running legal saga for businessma­n Bijan Kian, who was a partner with Flynn in the Flynn Intel Group.

Kian was charged in 2018; the case spun off from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigat­ion of Russian election interferen­ce.

IS claims killing of 2 in Israel, 2nd rampage in a week

TEL AVIV, Israel – The militant Islamic State group claimed responsibi­lity on Monday after a pair of Arab gunmen killed two Israeli police officers and wounded four others in central Israel

before they were killed by police, authoritie­s said.

On Tuesday, a lone attacker inspired by the Islamic State group killed four people in a stabbing rampage in southern Israel before he was killed by passersby, police said.

Top diplomats from Egypt, Qatar discuss ties in Cairo

CAIRO – Egypt’s foreign minister held talks with his Qatari counterpar­t Monday that focused on improved ties between the two countries.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shukry met with Qatar’s Foreign Minister Mohammad bin Abdulrahma­n Al Thani in Cairo.

It was the second visit for Qatar’s chief diplomat since Egypt and three Gulf nations ended their dispute with the energy-rich country last year.
