Beach Boys, Sheryl Crow to headline free concerts

The Columbus Downtown Developmen­t Corporatio­n and Columbus Associatio­n for the Performing Arts invite music lovers to have “Fun, Fun, Fun” on May 26, when The Beach Boys – Sixty Years of the Sounds of Summer comes to John F. Wolfe Columbus Commons.

Known for hits such as “I Get Around,” “Surfin’ USA” and in later years, “Kokomo,” The Beach Boys have become synonymous with the California sandand-surf lifestyle.

Later in the summer, concertgoe­rs can “Soak Up the Sun” with Sheryl Crow with special guests Keb’ Mo’ and Southern Avenue, on July 10, also at Columbus Commons.

Crow – who, incidental­ly, once sang backup for Michael Jackson – is sure to get the crowd movin’ and groovin’ with tunes including “All I Wanna Do,” “Every Day is a Winding Road” and “My Favorite Mistake.”

Times will be announced at a later date for both shows, which are free; but tickets will be required. The Beach Boys ticket release will be at 10 a.m. April 27, and the Sheryl Crow ticket release will be at 10 a.m. June 15.

Other live events coming to the Commons include:

• 7:30 p.m. May 29: Shadowbox Live

will bring its megahit tribute to Pink Floyd to the stage with stories, video and original dance to celebrate the music of the legendary rock band.

• 3 p.m. June 4: SUMMER614 CONCERT by FAME Production­s: Featuring Trick Daddy, Lyfe Jennings and other R&B and hip-hop artists, plus food, drinks and vendors. Tickets, which start at $40, are available at Eventbrite.

• 7 p.m. Aug. 5: The Navigators, a group composed of Columbus profession­als playing high-energy rock tunes from the ‘60s to today.

• 7 p.m. Aug. 6: Rock the Boat Concert Series presented by Battle Plan Promotions: The Motown Spinners will perform, with special guest Jojo of the Mary Jane Girls. Other artists to be announced. Tickets start at $49.50, available at Eventbrite.

Artists for free local concerts at 5:30 p.m. Thursdays in August will be announced at a future date. Also to be announced are the Columbus Symphony’s Picnic With the Pops.

Columbus Commons fans can also get excited for other summer fun such as movies (May 28, June 17, and July 22 at 8:15 p.m.), carousel rides, Family Fun Day on May 28, food trucks, and Free Commons for Kids from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Friday from June 10 to Aug. 12. Kid-friendly activities will include inflatable­s, face painting, crafts and more.
