Merrell, Edwin “Ed”
1942 - 2022
Edwin “Ed” Neal Merrell, beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, floraphile, golfer, retired real estate appraiser, and proud Delta Tau Delta and alum from The Ohio State University passed away peacefully on April 25, 2022 at the age of 79. Ed was a 35-year oral cancer survivor who miraculously beat stage 4 oral cancer, and lived life heroically and to its fullest, post-cancer. He contributed to support groups for oral cancer survivors for over 30 years and gave back to the community by volunteering for numerous fundraising events. Ed was always quick to laugh and didn’t take himself or life too seriously. His favorite quote was “I’m the luckiest man in the world,” which he authentically believed and exclaimed on a regular basis. Ed lived life with gratitude and had a naturally comforting personality. He was always curious and empathetic with others in a way that made them feel at ease. Ed loved gardening and he was very proud of
his flowers, which were always grand and impeccable as evidenced by multiple
Westerflora awards given for the nicest landscaping/
flowers in the Westerville community. During retirement, he became an avid golfer who loved the camaraderie of being out on the course with friends most of all. Ed is survived by his wife, Bobbi; his two stepsons, Todd (Edwina) and Andy; and grandchildren, Nicole, Eric, Adam, and Danielle. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 5-8pm at The Golf Club at Little Turtle, 5400 Little Turtle Way, Westerville, Ohio 43081. Arrangements entrusted to SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory may be made to The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute in support of head and neck cancer research.
