Edwin “Ed” Neal Merrell, beloved husband, stepfather, grandfathe­r, floraphile, golfer, retired real estate appraiser, and proud Delta Tau Delta and alum from The Ohio State University passed away peacefully on April 25, 2022 at the age of 79. Ed was a 35-year oral cancer survivor who miraculous­ly beat stage 4 oral cancer, and lived life heroically and to its fullest, post-cancer. He contribute­d to support groups for oral cancer survivors for over 30 years and gave back to the community by volunteeri­ng for numerous fundraisin­g events. Ed was always quick to laugh and didn’t take himself or life too seriously. His favorite quote was “I’m the luckiest man in the world,” which he authentica­lly believed and exclaimed on a regular basis. Ed lived life with gratitude and had a naturally comforting personalit­y. He was always curious and empathetic with others in a way that made them feel at ease. Ed loved gardening and he was very proud of

his flowers, which were always grand and impeccable as evidenced by multiple

Westerflor­a awards given for the nicest landscapin­g/

flowers in the Westervill­e community. During retirement, he became an avid golfer who loved the camaraderi­e of being out on the course with friends most of all. Ed is survived by his wife, Bobbi; his two stepsons, Todd (Edwina) and Andy; and grandchild­ren, Nicole, Eric, Adam, and Danielle. A Celebratio­n of Life will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 from 5-8pm at The Golf Club at Little Turtle, 5400 Little Turtle Way, Westervill­e, Ohio 43081. Arrangemen­ts entrusted to SCHOEDINGE­R NORTHEAST. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory may be made to The Ohio State University Comprehens­ive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute in support of head and neck cancer research.
