Crime Stoppers offer reward for information in fatal 2020 shooting at Near East Side bar
Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest in the July 2020 shooting death of a 21-year-old man.
Around 2:10 a.m. on July 26, 2020, Columbus police received multiple calls about gunshots being fired in the area of E. 5th and Joyce avenues on the Near East Side, near the Story Lounge.
Responding officers got information from a witness that someone had been shot in the head and was being transported to a hospital in a private vehicle.
Paramedics responded and found Dalan Wellman, of the Southeast Side. Wellman was rushed to Ohiohealth Grant Medical Center but died from his injuries.
The investigation has determined that four people were inside the Story Lounge bar, located at 1420 E. 5th Ave., and exited at 2:06 a.m. that morning. All four of the suspects walked west across
Joyce Avenue to the parking lot of a nearby business.
Video showed the suspects approaching a dark or black-colored 2012 Ford Fusion. All four of the suspects got into the Fusion, which then pulled out of the parking lot and turned left, passing the Story Lounge.
Multiple occupants in the Fusion are seen on video firing weapons into the air and at the bar’s patio area. One of those bullets struck Wellman and a different bullet struck a second victim in the arm.
